Is this a legit Civil War Rifle?

Saw this for sale today.
It's being called a Confederate Double Barrel Rifle.
I don't know anything about these but the price seems fair.
Can any one tell its authenticity from these pictures?

Unless there's rifling in the barrels, my guess would be a percussion dbble shotgun. It's in pretty bad condition. I don't know if it's Confederate or not. If you can find a makers name on the barrel, you might be able to find the age, and where it was made.

It appears to have been used in a cartoon, where someone stuck 2 fingers in the end of the barrels.

ETA: In case you didn't notice, the entire breech of the gun is destroyed.

Offered to me I would say, prove it!
Age looks right but without a marking used by issuer or other solid provenance proven it is just an old gun.
Even then fakes exist , and the lure of an alleged genuine relic can help push a sale too.
(Hey, I like old guns, just don't buy many.)

The thing that makes me suspicious is the electrical tape, which wasn't patented until 1946

Without knowing the maker it's pretty hard to offer any kind of ID on it... If you could get a measurement of the diameter of the bore that will determine if it's a rifle or a shotgun. It will date from probably late 1820's up til shortly after the civil war but any more than that is hard to say without knowing the maker. As to it being Confederate..... I would highly doubt it, the stories of Johnny Reb marching off to war with his squirrel gun are greatly exaggerated and highly suspect. It may have come from a southern state, but in my experience everyone with an old muzzle loader (who doesn't actually know guns) down south will tell you their gun was used by a Rebel soldier....

If they're asking less than 50$ for it, it'll make a nice wall hanger for the mantle, but beyond that there's really no value there I can see, unless it's a well known and scarce maker, but even then, condition is everything and missing the right hand lock really hurts it.

Is it a military rifle? no.

Could it have been used during the war? Not likely, but anything is possible.

Does it have any value? As Ken said, maybe $50 or less.

What are they asking for it?

Does not appear to be a rifle; but a view of the muzzles would solve that. With no rear sight(s) I'd assume it's a shotgun. Whether it was used by a Confederate would be near impossible to tell. I doubt very much it was issued, and may have been what "grandpa" fired at the damn Yankees from across a field and became a family treasure.

If the price is over $60 I'd call it extravagant. I'm guessing it's Belgian made from the remaining back-action lock.

Favored by Calvary as well. Someone coming at you with a shotgun, brace of pistols and then a sword from horseback is a real attention getter.

it's an 1860's double barrel shotgun in pretty rough shape. Shotguns from the Civil War period that have a Southern makers names on the locks or the barrel "could" have been carried during the war by confederates, especially confederate cavalry, but that would be difficult to prove at best. 50 bucks for this is plenty, and then some.

Surprisingly.... the ramrod might be worth more than the gun itself.... If you could find someone with an old shotgun who really wanted it....
