Is this a bayonet scabbard tip?

Found this. Looks kinda long. Dried up leather type material at both ends IMG_1147.webpIMG_1148.webpIMG_1149.webp
 

could be from bayonet, knife, sword.

i would not straighten it, but maybe others have a different preference.

Doesn't seem right to me as a scabbard tip. The taper at the end is pretty severe.

It is a bayonet scabbard tip.


It has the classic "bent tip" caused by soldiers ramming it in to the ground when they sat down, eventually causing the tip to pull off. (This still happens to reenactors.)


Not sure of the type. It looks pretty long for the common Civil War era rifles. Maybe a US pattern 1816 or 1842 or a Brown Bess? I'm just guessing...


Hopefully some of the gun guys on the forum will chime in.
