Is this a Birdstone???...

...or some natural formation? Asking because it looks far different than the weathered rocks I'm used to seeing. The low areas look like finger grooves, and they line up nicely when held in either hand..especially the left hand. Could it be some sort of pounding tool, or maul?? Measures 4 1/2" x 2" at widest points. It was found in central Illinois. Cass County, if I remember correctly.
Any info will be appreciated.

That’s hard limestone. I find pieces like that along our river. Funny shapes and very smooth.

I only collect artifacts I find while metal detecting the old farm sites, and fields.
These are the finds, so far. ..all were found in central Illinois, in either Cass, Sangamon, or Christian Counties.
The grindstone at the upper right, and the axe head (?) on the lower right look as though they were hit by a plow.
Not at all sure what the item (center left) is, but it has flaking (?) marks, and it's not flat. Looks cool, so i took it 😁
The grindstone (bottom left) and the better condition pieces were found by dried out creek beds and ponds.
Expert opinions always welcome.

That’s a good mix of stuff sometimes I wince when someone posts their other finds and they are all rocks, looks like a good woodland or younger site. Points, knives, drills an axe or hoe, hard stone stuff.

I live in Shelby Co, just east of Christian. It’s so hard to find artifacts anymore around here. Farming is much different now. Fields are never plowed anymore and our creeks are all muddy from farm runoff. You’re doing well if you can find anything.

Sorry to hear that. That pic shows about 25 years of lucky finds.
My grandparents lived near the Illinois River, and Lake Meredosia. They would find artifacts on the banks, especially after the water level dropped. I'm guessing that the fields of sandy soil would be great hunting grounds after a heavy rain.
