I have found a recent Greek coin and the bust looks similar. Yours appears to be many times older, so if it is Greek it may be brass :dontknow:

Since this is the coin most likely paid to Judas for betraying Jesus, it was probably copied many times. Someone posted here before that there was a biblical set of ancient coins used by preachers. Maybe these are from one of those sets. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/catalog/roman-and-greek-coins.asp?vpar=808&pos=0

Because it is so corroded, the best way to tell would be to test the metal.

Lol.I think Mcmenemin has secretly lurked on here and thought.."oh god,i'll have to write another book now!" then lurked off.
Proof positive though that Phoenecians discovered America! (check the denticals!) :tongue3:

I would have to agree both coins would have to be copies...........any idea how old they might be, or are they a real modern copy? They were both 5-6" deep, so I am thinking they were lost some time ago.

I would but I gave the nicest one to the home owner. They appreciated it, whether real old or not
How about a picture of them together (side by side) front and back, if possible?

Myself, I cannot say. We cannot see enough of the coin through the corrosion to make a determination. If it is pot metal, I would guess copy. Pot metal will corrode quickly.

Does anybody remember the post where someone said they remember a biblical coin set used by a preacher in their childhood church?

Although the denticals are similar on the posted coin, they are not identical to the Farley coin.

Nice move to give the home owner one of the coins :icon_thumright: Maybe next time you hunt the site you could bring your camera and explain to the home owner why you would like to take a pic. It would assist in ID of the coins
