Is this a misprint or just oddly worn?

I just read an article about common errors on new state quarters, which made me pull out my pocket change. This is a Virginia quarter that looks like the lettering wasn't stamped correctly...but I'm extremely new to this stuff so wanted a 2nd opinion. I feel like if it was just wear and tear, the lip around the edge would be worn down too.

Looks like what is known as a Grease Filled Die strike, which could fetch a buck or 2. Nice find!
