Found this last year and posted it on a smaller metal detecting forum. One of the members said this:

"If that Hot Wheels Custom El Camino was in better condition, that would be a $200-$300 item, or more. It's one of the rarer issues, and while the chassis is dated 68, it was issued in 71. (If my memory on Hot Wheels History is correct) It's also, obviously, not complete, it is from the rare stunt set and at one point held a small plane on a missing bed cover. Even so...you might want to have it restored...good luck with that!"

I believe he said later it was rare because it's red... So, is this red El Camino really rare, or can it go in the junk bin? If it is rare, would it even be worth getting restored (if that's even possible)?

Thanks!

Well, if a mint condition piece would net you $200-300 I think it would be pretty safe to relegate that to the junk bin. I would probably cost that much to have it restored. Just my 2 cents.

Looks like it may have been in a Roll-Over ;D

Yes, it probably could of been a rare Custom Fleetside but unfortunately Condition and Color is everything on the value with the old Red-Line Hot Wheels. I would think that one is beyond repair to be worth anything as someone stated. Cool find though, ! :icon_thumright:

I have several extra parts for this specific car, called the Custom Fleetside. I am willing to restore this car if you still have it for $10.

I am also willing to purchase this car. You can determine the price.

Cool! some Hot Wheel history. I never played with them. They came along the time I wanted more firearms, so I could head out to kill anything that walked, crawled and flew though the air. If only I spent my summer money on those kind of things and left em all in the box.

The El Camino you found is called the Skyshow Fleetside and was produced in 1970, which featured a plastic toy plane that could be launched on its bed. Most of its parts have been reproduced, such as its bed, skyshow ramp, wheels, decals and interior. :icon_thumleft: :3barsgold:

When I dig up cruddy Hot Wheels, I throw them in the tumbler when I do a load of coins. They get cleaned up pretty good.
