Is this an Indian artifact

I found this in Kentucky two years ago on my brother's farm. I rarely hunt arrowheads and most of my finds have been made while metal detecting.
Is it an axe or a farming tool? I have not cleaned it. Would it be OK to wash it with soapy water?
And, before anyone says it, no , it is not a baking potato!

Nope, unfortunately just a weathered piece of limestone.

Appears to be neither, I am in agreement with Ohio, just weathered limestone.....Mother nature probably made 100,000+ artifact looking stones for every artifact made by native americans....

Go ahead and wash away.....

Just what they call a 'geofact'. Just another rock. But your heart's in the right place, so keep your eyes open. Also, I could have picked up a rock like that and used it to hammer in tent stakes yesterday, so that would make it an artifact. Pay close attention to the presence of wear marks on anything you might find. Good hunting!

i agree, you can see the bit from the pics, water wont hurt it, its been rained on who knows how many years. try to clean the tip up and see if you can see any polishing on the end. or mail it to me

Limestone is too soft to have been used as a Celt so I think what you see as a "bit' is just the odd way the Limestone has weathered.

Maybe Steve but they knocked out hoes and digging tools with the stuff. I never thought they used limestone either till I found several obvious worked pieces from a site on a river. One could be natural though even if it looks like it has a bit. Find some more and I think the conclusion is obvious. Tool. I have worked mountain stone as well. Who would have thought?

There are cherts with so little silica in them that they might as well be limestone or siltstone. Especially when their original silica content is largely leached out of them.

Appearances can be deceiving.

Not yet. I have been otherwise occupied lately. I started a new job after being retired for 5 1/2 years. Now, I am no longer retired, just tired!
I'll try to get it cleaned tomorrow.
