Hello out there. I found this in a Central FL park while while digging a metal target the other day and I have some doubts about it. My concerns are:

1) It was only 2-IN deep which is not a big deal but old metal finds in this park are usually much deeper.
2) It was found in a park where they have craft fairs so it may be a lost reproduction piece.
3) The rounds where it would tie to the shaft look newly cut and are very symetric in size and shape suggesting thay were added by modern means.
4) In looking at indian points on the internet, I don't see many with a curved rear opposite the pointy end .

I would of course like it to be the genuine article but my gut says it is a fake that was recently tossed or lost. Please let me know if you have any input on this piece.

Thanks. C9

Yep, modern fake. The lashing spots are definitely machine made, as well as the edges are completely wrong. True knapped edges are often still sharp enough to cut even hundreds of years later.

Hi J in E. Thanks for the reply, I had the same feeling about this piece, but I did a big time double-take when it came out of the soil. BLNT I guess. Thanks again and HH in OK. C9

Made in Mexico and found in many tourist traps. They will have a little basket of authentic stone arrow heads for one or two dollars each.
The more honest people will leave the little "made in Mexico" paper that is stuck to each one. Of course they are authentic stone, so nobody
is lying.
