Heart shaped horse bridle buckle, it was found at ww1 camp site , cant find any ww1 bridles buckle like it , just civil war , so thinking it was surplus or left over from the civil war??? 20191003_110514.jpg20191003_110523.jpg

I’ve seen those being civil war era. They’ve made newer reproductions with the same design since then.

No .. It is post war .. Lots of confusion about those things, but if you go by patent dates, they are post war.
 

Pre or Post war, that is still a nice find. Congrat's.
 

Mud Hut is correct... the version of horseharness strap-buckle shield posted by jimzz977 was invented by Mr. R.A. Wooding and he received a US Patent for it in 1892. Absolutely not from the civil war era, despite the false claims of many Ebay sellers. Also, Charlie Harris wrote an excellent article about this type, with photos, in the American Digger magazine, seven years ago. See the original 1892 US Patent, and Charlie's article, attached below. Note, the presence or absence of an emblem on it doesn't matter... it's still the version of horseharness buckle-shield patented in 1892. See the photos in Charlie's article.
