I was out kayaking today near known Indian Mounds and found this on the shore. At first I thought it was a turtle but it's a rock that appears to have been carved. I know nature can do some interesting things to stone, but it looks too deliberate to me. The carvings are on one face only, going around the edges, with the back being blank.

Looks altered by man to me but who knows what is/was. Hopefully someone else while chime in. I would have kept to for sure.

I'm looking at your picture on my phone so, I can't see it real well but, it looks man made to me as well. Could it be a broken Celt?

Just Posted them... Duh....

Ah now I see em. They weren't showing a minute after you posted. Could be man made or frost fractures.
And don't get mouthy boy

Cool find! Looks like a inscribed stone to me.

Lol yeah I figured that. I was just raggin on ya.
Interesting piece for sure. Maybe you could clean the cracks gently with a soft bristled brush and get a better idea of whether they're just cracks or intentionally carved. If ya do clean it, post up another pic so we can try to help

if the marks are on one side and do not extend to the sides from the top and especially if when they do extend to the sides..they don't meet up..then maybe yes man made. but if the marks meet up along the sides making continuous lines that meet, then most likely natural.

Yeah I agree give it a bath so we can see the lines better. Looks interesting. Wash it with tap water and a toothbrush let it dry and lets see. River rocks can do crazy things in the water. Id of picked it up.

septarian nodule??
