Is this thimble from the military?

[mlw67]

I came across this cool thimble with a shield on the front and 7 stars around the base. The '12' I assume is the size, but there are no other markings.

I found one with a similar shield on eBay from the Navy:

Could my thimble be Army or something?

Thanks for looking!

No, I just think the shield is for Initials of the owner.

I agree the size = 12

The shield is decidedly patriotic, but not necessarity military.

The stars... nice, but with 6 points tends to move me away from military as well.

Nice looking thimble... I'm still looking for close examples.

I agree with Crusader and Jim, a non-military thimble of plated brass in the style of this French silver thimble of the 1890's. http://sewantiques.com/SC2401A.JPG
