Tonight I was finishing up on a job site in the middle of town. The snow has melted but the ground was still frozen. We were standing around talking before leaving and I was kicking some clumps of dirt when this popped out. I was like no way! No flakes nothing anywhere else. This whole area is developed. I have a feeling it is old but have nothing to associate it with. I do not know the material but is has a small crystal inclusion in it. Has a good bit on the base and the edges are ground on the sides.
Thanks for looking.

This is from the flintknapper view of this subject 1st football size rock, 2nd rough spall (a slab broken off the larger piece) 3rd a cleaned spall (all waste stone removed in quarry)Then depends on what you want to make you thin it down to the shape you want 4th for a point you pressure flake and make notches. It's the fine flaking that will tell you if it was a scraper, or preform and like gator said Adzs most of the time have a small curve shape on the working end.JMO
