Dusty field with foot prints everywhere, an arrowhead hunters nightmare senario. Right?? Well this was the condition today. I was tired, wanted to go home then I saw a flint chip lodged in the ground, I thought 'what the heck I'll pick it up'. The earth moved above it, so I just flip it out and there it was a 3 7/16" Carter Cave Clovis arrowhead. I couldn't believe my eyes, and neither could my buddy Chuck who was right there when this unfolded. There still out there! HH

I'm at a loss for words over here, trying to catch my breath. That's a phenomenal clovis, a really fine example, find of a lifetime imo. I sort of believe you too, j/k, congrats.

Re: It took 18 years: Clovis today

Good stuff, I've been looking for over 25 years and the best I've come up with is a broken base on a Clovis. Double thumbs up, good to know they are still showing up........

Re: It took 18 years: Clovis today

Wow, looks like they still have the fluting nipple on there for the unfluted side! Has the side 'guide' flutes, but not the main flute. Is the small protruding nipple in the base ground well? It may not be, but it sure looks like they were set up to flute that second side but didn't do it yet?

Re: It took 18 years: Clovis today

I figure it's an unfinished piece. The nipple is not ground, but it is definately there. The barbs are lightly ground. The maker set up that medial ridge that runs down to the nipple for the next flute. Someone suggested it was a St. Louis type clovis. I still can't believe I found this sucker. I didn't think I was this lucky.

You are an inspiration to get out there and look. If it was not 11:40 pm..... That thing is beautiful. It is a Banner for sure.(do we get banners here?) Great photos. Congratulations lostlake88 !!

I MUCH prefer a piece like this (rather than if both sides were finished), due to the educational value. Your first Clovis is a doozy!

i never seen a prehistoric artifact up there, i dont see why not, this should be the first no? If it does not make it, i would like to know why.
I believe the Clovis is the gold coin of indian artifacts , and the Folsom would be the chain cent of indian artifacts :icon_jokercolor:
