It's a WHO DONE IT
?
Well the story goes like this..... I wanted to get to a girl scout camp last season & just plain ran out of decent weather before hanging up the detector for the year. Waited through the long Wi. winter, finally some warm weather moved in & melted the seasons snow fall. Now with this camp on county land in Wi. I knew I could go there without having to ask permission. I got there on March 29th. (that's early here in the northwoods) I had a fantastic day, I found 10 silver coins, My first buffalo nickle & got to watch a pair of sand hill cranes walking around the field paying no never mind to me! Well it happened to turn cold again & we got a few inches of snow, so I had to wait a couple more weeks before going back.
The day came when I could go back & on my way down the road to the place I met the care taker...... He asked me what I was doing back there & I said I was on my way to metal detect, he told how long the place was there ( about 70 years) And said good luck..... A few minutes later he came back down the road & asked me if those were all of my holes in the ball field
I looked at him not really knowing how to answer him cuz I knew I was there a couple weeks before & I know I fill all my holes. I came clean & said that yes I did metal detect that field but I always fill my holes in. He said well just make sure you do, I gotta mow that field & I don't like the bumps.
Wow...... Didn't know what to think, I made it back to the field & saw that there were hundreds of holes all over the place, heck... they were my holes!!!! But I swear I fill all of them back in
? I'm standing there in astonishment, what in the world I said to myself? So I proceeded to go around and fill all those holes in again, took me darn near an hour. (ok, quit laughing at me) Now that the holes are all filled back in, I went ahead & started metal detecting, after a hour or two of detecting I look behind me & there's my feathered friends the Sand hill cranes again, funny birds that they are, I noticed something, those gosh darn things were following me around pulling my plugs out, mystery solved!!! they had to be looking for grubs or something. Ya think they could have done the hard work for themselves.
Moral to the story; Don't let sand hill cranes make a liar out of you!
Here's that days finds.
