Found today about a foot down in a field. It has a small hole at one end where it could be attached to something.

It reminds me of a plumbob or pendulum but no pointy bit, the non hole end is slightly rounded and not flat.

Its quite heavy, not magnetic either.

Steam engine relief or safety valve piston?

I think that the "official" name is a Salmon Priest.

I used to cobia fish a lot. When you gaff a 50+ pound fish and sling em in the boat while he is still green you want to put him down quick before he breaks something or tail flips back out of the boat. We usually used a miniature bat, but I could see How the onject in question would work just fine.

I've done a little fishing in my time. I don't recall ever having the need or desire to whack anything I caught... :icon_scratch:

A friend of mine fishes from a kayak and caught a five foot flounder. He had to wack it several times with his paddle. It hung into the water on both sides.

Five foot flounder? That’s has to be world record!

Is it lead filled? How many holes can you find on it?

Just to muddy the waters... I'd have guessed it was an archery counterweight like this.
