It's Old, And It's Gold. But What Is It?

I've been hitting a site that the targets are few and far between but when I get a signal, it's usually a good one. So far the coins have been a shield nickel, an 1803 Half Cent, a KGIII and many buttons.

Today I got a 12-4 reading on my CTX-3030 and dug this tiny gold at 6 inches. I thought it was a crushed children's ring at first until I was able to unflatten it a bit.

I have a feeling it's a gold band from an old quill pen or a fountain pen, but I'm hoping someone can give a positive ID on it. There are no markings on it, but it's definitely gold, and not a pencil eraser as someone else suggested!

Nice Find :icon_thumright: I was on a detecting rally a number of years back when some thing like this was found, it was gold also and was from a riding crop,

SS

Riding crop is also a good option, but we may never know for sure...

I was thinking pen. I have a gold pen but it is not ornate. Is it tapered or just circular? Sweet find. You always find the good stuff 8-)

I have seen plenty of Silver versions of these on old pipe stems, not seen a Gold but could be worth looking into.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest.
Nice find!

It's not tapered at all. I found this toward the end of my hunt. I hope the vegetation holds off another week or so so I can see if there's more at the spot when I get out this weekend.

Neil I have been spraying a lot I have permission on the last couple of years. So far the sprayed out areas have produced mini balls and grape shot. It was covered in ivy. I must be desperate, lol. Good luck.
