It's too dang dirty

I found this neat-looking thing about 8 inches deep right by our driveway. I have zero idea what it is. My suspicion is something construction-related. It's *extremely* heavy - maybe even a full pound. Front is metal, reverse is rubber. Metal registers strong 15's, 80"s, and 40's on the Garrett Ace 200. I want to identify the darn thing myself, but I cannot get it (reasonably) clean to save my life. I've tried electrolysis, soaking in vinegar, soaking in Simple Green, elbow grease with a wire brush. And just very little progress. Any tips on cleaning?

Yep, I can totally see that. Got an old one from my truck sitting in front of me. If that hole goes all the way through that makes a lot of sense.

That tape was me singing in a band in college, circa 1989. Oh man....

I think I'll leave it in the electrolysis bucket a good while longer and see what I get. At the end of the day, I guess it's just a big ol piece of metal, but it's fun to find out.

I think it looks like a mount from a rubber pad for a caterpillar track. Some excavators have them for better grip on pavement/to keep from tearing up paved surfaces.

That makes even more sense. Because I couldn't figure out how a motor mount would have gotten buried that deep near the end of my driveway. This property was just farmland until 1968, with no evidence of structures. So it would make perfect sense to have had this come off an excavator during construction of the house.

Evaporust works pretty good, but, might be a waste on that part. Looks modern automotive related.

I was thinking body mount for like a truck onto the frame, but the catarpiller track is a good guess. It also looks like the pad mount between an axle housing and a leaf spring. (mercury cougars had steel rubber, mustangs were just steel)

What throws me in terms of a motor mount is that it only has one hole. You'd expect it to have more like three or four....
