I found these a few years ago, in Wilson County, NC with other Civil War items. I think I know what they are but just want to see if every agrees. But I think they are were Gilted Brass Knots for an Officer Hat Cord. What you do you think. I was lucky in finding the pair. Thanks Guys Happy Hunting.

Nothing about it says "Civil War officer" to my eye.

I'm thinking Victorian Etruscan style ball earring. 1880's give or take a decade.

I have never seen an original period hat cord acorn that resembles that. I am going with earring as well.

Knot sure what period that hat is from, but if Civil War, one would think those would turn up regularly on Civil War sites. But I have never seen one posted or in any Civil War relic books...so :dontknow:

I did a Google image search on "model 1858 army dress hat" and "Hardee hat acorns". There are a surprising number of pictures of original M1858 hats with acorn finials on the internet. Again, 'to my eye', the shape isn't quite right nor is the openwork of the metal of your relic. But I can see how you came to your conclusion.

I'll stick with my initial assessment.
