I've been working on the railroad I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD

I've been working on the railroad

All the live-long day.

I've been working on the railroad

Just to pass the time away.

Don't you hear the whistle blowing,

Rise up so early in the morn;

Don't you hear the captain shouting,

"Dinah, blow your horn!"

Dinah, won't you blow,

Dinah, won't you blow,

Dinah, won't you blow your horn?

Dinah, won't you blow,

Dinah, won't you blow,

Dinah, won't you blow your horn?

Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah

Someone's in the kitchen I know

Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah

Strummin' on the old banjo!

Singin' fi, fie, fiddly-i-o

Fi, fie, fiddly-i-o-o-o-o

Fi, fie, fiddly-i-o

Strummin' on the old banjo.

Someone's makin' love to Dinah

Someone's making love I know.

Someone's making love to Dinah

'Cause I can't hear the old banjo

"Were they about in the same area"

Back of the old foundation; may have been a border

Wow. Interesting. Never knew about these. Something new to think about.

Re: I've been working on the railroad I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD

I have a bunch of those nails, just laying around in a drawer. Does'nt really say if they are worth anything. They are cool though, I hav'nt made time to display the ones I have.

Nice finds Sherm! Date nails are interesting but you leave out the juicy details. Did you walk the line or find a fire pit close to a station? Do you know what Railroad they are from? I have a hand full of date nails from a nice adventure walking a closed railway, numbers "1" and "46" are the earliest. I lucked out and found a pile of older abandoned RR ties. The Germans have been using iron ties since the early 1900s and only certain parts of the track is made with wooden ties around bridges and road crossings. They are not as available as in the USA. Congrats on the nails and HH, Mike

Learn something new everyday ;D Thoses are cool. Never seen those before

Re: I've been working on the railroad I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD

How big are they? because they look like Storm/Screen window numbers!!!!!! so you put the correct window into its opening

Re: I've been working on the railroad I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD

Great Sherm, I finally get over my nail addiction, and you have me drooling for a date nail! :D I like them!

BomberJohn,
always something new to start looking
for and collecting. ;D

Bavaria Mike,

hope all is well.
I never really got into the heavy collecting
of date nail; always keep my eyes open, but it's
just something extra.

QUICKSILVER (appletree),
again,

COUNTRY GIRL,
yes, they are neat. Always interesting finding them in areas
other than old tracks.

Newt,
neat thing about our hobby; always something more
to look for. ;D Long, long, long things to find list

luckysgirl,
stay away from those nail dates. ::)

tymcmurray,
have a few of them here and there, never keep
my finds where I can find them :P Think my oldest is from the 20's.

Indianhead Jones,
