Haven't seen any personally, but I know a guy on another forum who's family mines Jade.

Nice piece!

Hard to tell by looking, but Jadeite is supposed to have a hardness greater than Nephrite Jade.

Real jade will be cold when you touch it.

Take a knife point and try and scratch it... if it scratches easily then its not jade...
IF it slides off with good pressure...
Jade.

I don't want to damage it. Right now it is in a semi polished state and pristine.

I got this information from elle:

New Jade (Serpentine) makes an exceptional meditation stone. It helps you to find inner peace. Serpentine was carried in ancient Assyria to request the gods and goddesses to provide double blessings. Nursing women used it to regulate their milk supply. Serpentine can be placed directly on the skin. It is an aid to kidney and stomach complaints, relaxes cramps and menstrual pain and helps women who are unable to reach orgasm due to tension.

The picture shows a perfect match.

That's good news, John. I hope it will help you with your menstrual cycle. Maybe you won't be so crabby, now!

I might let "Grumpy" Old Man borrow it Darren!

Ah, ok...thanks for the clarification.

Aquanut, now why would you want to change the mean, grumpy, old man's disposition?
