went back to the spot I found several good items before. The place is huge and will take me many more months to detect. Somehow finds seem to concentrate in a certain area.

I have no idea what this is but it is old - that's for sure

If there was no hook I would say it was a 16th-17th century spectacle buckle with confidence but with the hook, I don't know.

Less than 1 inch .. I don't think it could be a sword hanger.

This style was not from "A" belt... but from a specific belt... AKA - "sword belt".

:)

:P

heh

:tongue3: Oh .. well.. in that case I better clarify my statement ..They must have worn a leather thong for a sword belt, and used swords the size of toothpicks!

Maybe this fits in with what you got going on over there, Horst ?
This site sells a similar item for reenactors and they attribute theirs to these people :

"The Ostrogoths were a Roman-era Germanic people. In the 5th century, they followed the Visigoths in creating one of the two great Gothic kingdoms within the Roman Empire, based upon the large Gothic populations who had settled in the Balkans in the 4th century, having crossed the Lower Danube."
