Its one of a Presidential Series. I think 60's maybe. I have found a couple. You can date it by the last president. As a charter member you can search "Presidential Series" here at TN and you can read about it here in What is It.

I agree BigC. Maybe one from a Shell gas station set,era 1960's. The ones Shell came out with in the 70's were made of aluminum.

These coins have been made for a long time,I used to get them from a neighborhood store in 1950 i was in the fifth grade and the teacher would pay for a candy bar or something like that once a month they came with a special gum i think

I agree. The older ones were not from Shell Oil. I found my first one in 1970. It was brass and worn thin, had been carried a long time. The aluminum ones were from the 60's.

There are two different brass presidential sets. Notice the date location above the head. The complete set (pic 2) is late 60's-early 70's. (LBJ) and this type may be late 50's-60's(date above head) The aluminum Shell set (bottom) is early 70's I think because I remember them. You got one with each fill up. You can date by the last president.

These presidential tokens seem to be a popular find among a lot of us, who seem to find these things at pretty much the same 5-6" depth. With the exception of the ancient-looking presidential token thingamajig with the red background posted in the photo forum, these tokens are apparently (without seeing photos of them) pieces to Shell Oil Co.'s "Mr. President's Game." They came in two versions, aluminum and brass, depending on how far along you got in the game. If you collected the whole set of presdential aluminum tokens by your parents filling up their car's gas tank enough times, you got a set of the brass tokens ... or a set of drinking glasses or 500 S&H green stamps or something like that. Shell also subsequently ran a "States of the Union" game with aluminum and brass pieces, but I haven't seen any posts this year from anyone finding those game tokens. I had a whole dresser junk drawer full of 'em in 1970.

Between my dad's '64 Impala Super Sport and his '68 Ford Galaxie 500, our family apparently sucked up our share of petroleum products, so I pretty much know about every gasoline company premium doled out in the Chicagooland area between the early 1960s and late 1970s -- everything from those Citgo "tiger in your tank" glasses to those goofy little Union 76 (Clark) fluorescent orange styrofoam balls you stuck on the end of your radio antenna.

The last two pics I posted in reply #8 would be the early 70's Shell game he speaks of. Your token with the date above the head has still not been identified IMO. You need to search and find the last president. My guess is 50's or 60's.

Great pics jgas. This date above the head is not the early 70's "Shell's Mr. President Coin Game" series. I suspect 50's. One way to date it would be to search for the latest president.

So far we have the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 10th, 13th, 20th, 22nd & 24th presidents.

This should clear it up. PBK is always right. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,37044.0.html

Andie, your token looks like it's from one of the presidential commemorative or so-called "presidential data" series issued around 40-50 years ago. Some were given away at gas stations, others at banks, and I believe some were also used as prizes in boxes of breakfast cereal. Later, they were also sold in sets or albums in gift and hobby shops.
