IMG_4872.JPG Found this by the pier on San Simeon beach across from Hearst Castle. Has sideways W mark. Ugly but anyone know about these? Worth more than gold value? Was there a stone or another gold piece that went missing?

Looks like a stone popped out from under those prongs.
Lots of tarnish, it may not be Gold.
Rings are always fun to find.
Congrats.

Agreed, looks plated.

No prongs - that's what's weird. Maybe another piece snapped or was soldered into that hole?
A faceted stone wouldn't stay in the existing hole.
if it were plated would it be magnetically attracted? (Haven't tried as on vacation)

Not really, most base metals which are plated are copper based.

The paste stone could easily have been glued.

Congratualtions on the ring find! It appears to be missing a stone and perhaps plated, but still a ring! :occasion14:

Nice find! A ring is a ring and you even found it on vacation! Good story!

Nice ring. Certainly appears plated.
