Sdolly, I would say it is just a rock, near water I'm guessing?, but I love seeing those posts...keep'em coming. I say post'em all!!lol

May I ask why were you digging that particular spot, I think you have one of those questionable ID's and might need more info?? Maybe near old water?? Were other thing found near??

Well, a few years ago I had the pleasure of being visited here by the author of Arrowheads of the Great Central Plains, Dan Fox. We spent an afternoon looking for artifacts at one of my sites. He did call my attention to the number of flat stones, usually hand sized that we were seeing, and he mentioned seeing them regularly on other site he hunted. His opinion was they had a use......Thinking about it since, because I find them so often, I guess I can see where a good, solid, flat, washable , place to put things could come in handy in many ways when you don't have cupboards, counters, tables, or plates.
