Im thinking of tradeing in my cibola and my tiger shark for a whites XLT or dfx 300, even if i have toss a few bucks. would it be worth it? i just had another spine surgery i got 14 screws in my spine and i cant keep going up and like i use to. so im looking to trade or buy a machine that can help me tell me whats in the ground.. with cibola and tiger shark i have to always bend over to dig.. any advise would be very helpfull, i hate to give up this hobby i love it so much along with history. people can send PM messages if they like im just getting depressed from thought of giving up my hobby from disabilty issues

I'll comment, but it might not be what you want to hear.

You want to get rid of your Tesoro machines, and get something that will admittedly have you digging less targets? So you want to just cherry pick? If you are expecting an ID machine to increase the quality of your finds, you're going to be disappointed. You will start to ignore potential good targets because the display says so. That's human nature. Some say they ignore the screen, but then I have to wonder why bother having it. I've never used the Cibola, but I have a Tejon and with practice, you can tell what's in the ground with reasonable accuracy. Different items have different peculiarities to the beep. That and the dual discriminators can really limit the unnecessary digging.

But if it was me in your spot, this is what I would do. Forget about the White's machines, sell your Cibola and TS, and get a new Golden uMax. It is as light as a feather, has tone ID, variable notch and is just a pleasure to use. You'll reduce your digging, but you will still have good odds of digging rings because they will sound off with a "diggable" tone. You won't be digging coins a foot down, but you sure will clean out the first 6".

Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth.

Thanks. i guess i should of added that a id or a ringing of machine may help better.. i have used a xlt and when it hit a target the number would jump up with a tone id and there a penny and sometimes copper.. its so hard to figure out. i just got 14 screws in my spine so u can imagine bending up and down. i love to dig deep targets and i love my cibola over tiger shark all day.. last april i had 10 screws removed and my spine broke in 4 places from just standing, so i had to get screws back in.. the one thing is i know a old beach from mid 1800s and u cant get to water becuse its private property so i have to rent boat and row to it cool thing its ankle deep water.. and the neighbors wont let me go through there yard i know that not one person been there with detector since the beach close down a house was built in 1915 then tore down lat year..makes it hard to decided how to deal with it.. thanks for reply.. and i will check on that machine with tone

Hi Mike, I wondered what happened to you. Sorry to hear about the back and know the spot you are in. I have a DFX and it is heavy compared to the Tejon I would rather use now. The screen is nice if you want to cherry pick but you will still have to bend down to get it. That is my trouble as I have trouble getting back up. This is why I enjoy the water cause I can use a scoop and a light one like the smaller Sunspot. Your Tiger Shark would sell for a premium if you sold it because Tesoro doesn't have them in production now, but I expect soon or a newer one will be out come summer. They are very quiet about this new development.

Don't laugh but I had thought of just laying on the ground and sliding the coil ahead of me. I would be very through in my sweeps and digging would be easy. It is silly, but when we get train wrecked it is the best we can do to continue the hobby. Get better soon.

The Golden would be a nice choice. I have one and a Cortes too, also a fisher ID Edge. The Golden and the Cortes have notches, they will knock out most shallow pull tabs and still get ladies gold rings. The Edge has a similar setup. Golden has the best tones system of the three but has no meter. Any of the three would be a great choice in my opinion.

I know where you are comming from cause i have rods in my back. weight is something you might want to keep in mind.the also not only a graph Id but also a tone.Cortes has a graphic ID this will help. im not sure about trade like that though i ve been testing the AT pro. it has the screen & tone id. As always their a bad side of not wanting to dig everthing like pull tabs, nickels & rings. Their is several video on you tube that give good details on using screen & tone ID something like that might be eazier for you. Dont give it up
