Had a great hunt with Mastereagle22 a few weeks ago and wanted to post my finds. Just catching up on finds I hadn't posted. These are the ones Mastereagle has been groaning about and sniffling that I always find better stuff and all. I found these at a place he took me to. We had a great hunt and he found some great stuff too. I just wanted everyone to see them.

Okay. Cool stuff. That spent rifle cartridge--with the beaded end--looks like a 30-06 cartridge. That would have been

1. A blank cartridge--check the year stamped in the base--should be years between 17 and mid 50's (that is ball park years 06 was used possibly earlier and some later--you know give or take a decade). :)

2. Grenade launching cartridge for same caliber. Best guess--and I know you did not ask.

Great finding that stuff--along with your coins. It indicates you know how to MD--you are a hunter.

Thank you for sharing.

Stryker,
Wow...thanks for the information. I always appreciate knowing more about these objects. That's why I always try to post everything. Thanks for the compliment as well. I have been swinging my Whites XLT for about a year and think we finally are reaching an understanding with one another. Here is the information on the cartridge base.

The cartridge base is marked in four spots with the numbers/letters:
L C 5 A

The shotgun shell base reads:
Redhead Reliance No 12

Your avatar is really funny !! It will be cool when our machines can I.D stuff for us.... Beep Beep, (CW backpack buckle)Beep Beep, (30-06 Rifle cartridge.) Beep Beep....You get the idea.

Keep @ it and HH!!

Baldingboy,

Military ammo is pretty cool to research. Ammunition is made at several arsenals and the arsenal's initials will be stamped on the base as you wrote L C 5 A

LC --Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, was in Independance, Mo and was reported to be operated under contract by Remington as Lake City Ordnance Plant from Sept 1941 to August 1945, on .30-06. and then opened back up after the Korean war--since small arms cartridges usually have two digits for a year I think the "A" is a "4". And that would fit with it being a blank cartridge Lake City 54.

Still a good find.
