Don't remember where you found the penny or if authentic. This is just a thought, about some pennies a gold prospector found. He posted photos of pennies with a cross engraved on each Turned out another forum member once had an Indian friend who left the pennies as an offering to the spirits for taking the gold.

I have another one with the Lincoln head, reverse side is Square/Compass. I think it was made in Georgia
