Just say no to the rocks!

I have not posted anything that I have found since last fall because where I hunt is underwater right now but when I come to the forum to see what others have posted all I see is things that don't belong in this forum. Only a very few people have posted any artifacts. I know there is a learning point for everyone but when do you say enough with the rocks?

I totally agree that this is a wonderful place to ask and answer questions. I too ask for input and advice.when I first started on this forum I ..more than once was the Guy with an attitude. But I also belive that there is alot of learning that can be done by observing others posts and their artifacts that should allow people to make their own deductions and weed out the stones. I like helping alot it is rewarding to me but when one person continues posting rocks it seems their should be more self evaluation happening.

What is it about rocks that bother you so bad? Did a lot of them get thrown at you as a child? Sorry man, you set yourself up too good for me to resist.

S_G although I agree to the intent of your message, how do these people learn the difference between
an artifact & a leaverite unless they have someone to give them info.
IF they have no experts where they are, I would hope our members who consider themselves
knowledgeable would be kind enough to give them guidance without judgement.

or if the "rock" just happens to be something they collected & it's with their pics of artifacts,
so be it
I'm sure most of you have something non artifact related your proud of finding.
how Would you's feel if you pulled it out to show off & were told "I don't want to see your stuff,
I'm sick of your stuff !"

Or you found a rock that may be worked, but your not sure,
so you walk into a local experts office who advertises on his sign
he's there for questions, & are reamed out and
told to leave, and he never even looked at your find ?

I'm not naming names, because most of you probably don't realize how it comes off, & probably
don't mean it the way it seems to me and possibly others.

However, some people need to get over themselves

where are all the artifacts, that those who have some should post them Also

It's rather embarassing when you post with ''real'' actual artifacts, and recieve only two or three responses. And when there is a post on an ''Just A Rock'', there are a dozen or more responses glamorizing and comparing.

and the funny thing is the dozen or so responses that you are talking about usually come from the same members over and over..and over
now watch...... i will probably get pounded on for what i just said

which is why i try to just be quiet most of the time

i was always told by digger john a long time ago....."if you gotta ask if it is an artifact then it probably isn't"

I still love you Larson. I also know I am one of the dozen. Thanks to you in specific, I've been able to throw a couple of my mysteries out, and thank you for that. Only one item that you disputed me on that I think is an artifact. (not a nice one) fact is not all of us are 61 years old. And I disagree with the if you have to ask thing, infant I know that is crap.

I'm not here to make enemies either Larson. I realize you guys have been here for years. You like to see great finds. At the same time, you must remember to respect the newbies and their pride. We don't want to discourage them to the point of giving up. We can't let this hobby die out. In my town, only about 3 of us really hunt. No one cares about history, or prehistory in this case anymore. I hate to see these guys in here for monetary gain. I did not realize artifacts had a value(other than Clovis ) until I came here. I take it that you know old digger on a personal level. Please ask him to help educate the young, rather than make us feel dumb. One more thing, understand new members get a little defensive when you call them out. Ive learned to let the attitude slide, because it will only stop people from reading what I post. Understand, when a person has enough faith in a "rock" to post it before the world,and then get told "rock" it makes a man feel like a fool. Now, don't lie to them, but don't do like old digger does and keep going on and on about it, because it is belittling and bully like. Larson , you are the man, and if I debate something you tell me, I'm not questioning your intelligence. Keep up the good work my brother!
