Hello,
I found today (just aprox. 1 hour ago) this bomb splinter fast on the surface of the ground! - It was 10 cm deep so I dug it up with my hand ;D
This hole area suffered heavy air raids by the british in 1944-45.There are splinter everywhere ::)
The first pic was taken as it was dirty, the others after that.

Thanks.
I'm comparing now today's splinter with other one that was found in tree wood in central Germany. They are identical !
The harrow shows where the saw hit it while wood cutting.

RJ, glad your only finding fragments and not the whole bombs. But I know if you hunt long and hard enough it's bound to happen. It seem like every time they have to dig at my grandparent's old house in Munchen they find another one. Whole bomb that is.

Such splinters are my main enemy when I am MDing. In some areas in the forest you can find several kilogramms from 1 square meter. April 1945 :(

As you just said - you don't need to look for splinter, but they come to you!
I'm very impressed how metal deforms under such a power of explotion. It seems to be cut like butter!
For example this splinter is very thick and heavy. Was it a super bomb or perhaps the rest of an anti-aircraft battery?
Pic Nr.2 shows what someone IDed. it as a 8,8 projectil bolt for the anti-aircraft Flak.

Bomb fragments are almost everywhere in Germany and give a great signal! Good luck finding some old relics. HH, Mike
