here are some shots that Tn asked for a while back
the surface is covered with flakes and pottery shards and lots of broken bone
it is so thick that I need to walk very slowly and stop every 3 or 4 feet
at times I put my gloves and knee pads on and crawled very slow
years ago when crawling like this I found 2 very small fish hooks within an hour

the last 3 images show a bone tool to flatten quills or maybe a flaking or pottery making tool

last image shows a squash knife or a broken shovel or hoe made from a buffalo scapula

some of them are pieces of burnt ash, charcoal, or corn cobs (but these are only one in every 25 or so

I think its very interesting to see site pictures of where you hunt. I can never get over the amount of animal bone and bone tools you find. You are saving a bunch of history. In the South due to the moisture and humidity and animals our bone goes pretty quick. Sometimes we find a bone awl or something like that but its usually pretty deeply buried. If its exposed it rots

That's a great site larson, Can you share some more about the site with us? Not location or anything, but size of camp, ages in it, water sources nearby, elevation from floodplain, ect? Also how did you find a site that hasn't been picked through and choped up by the plow for the past 100yrs? I just learned of a spot on my farm that was supposed to be a trade site for the indians, but its never been plowed all around there. Its ex pasture, timber, and old creek bed as the creek was straightened and relocated in the 1950's. So I'm wondering how to go about finding anything there. One option is that I could clear 2 fence rows and have it planted in corn and soybeans.
How do you turn your soil and keep weeds down and how often since it looks like it dosnt get planted?

Haha Me too. It would become my job. In my mind I have already designed a sifter out of Larsons tractor to get all the goodies and then put the top soil back and nobody would ever know. It would take years to just go thru the sifted material.

Hey Larson,

Your ground pics have more in them than I could stumble over in a whole year of looking. You are blessed! What more can be said.
I have been doing some searching on google earth, however and when deer season is over and the water goes down I have located a site that looks very promising at the conjunction of a major stream and a river. Adventure awaits.
