Kaufman County "forgotten" towns

When I get my MD, I think most of my hunts will end up being in Kaufman County, where I live and own some acreage.

I don't know much about the history of Kaufman County (yet!), but during my first looks today, I found this interesting list from the Kaufman County Historical Commission: http://www.kaufmancounty.net/kchcr.htm

It is a list of town names in the county, some of which ceased being towns more than 100 years ago. Yet, a little information is known about many of the towns, such as Jeuberville, which died out around 1877, but during its existence had a store, a school and horse racing.

I wonder if anyone has had any success locating some of these now-forgotten towns, especially ones that are known to have had structures like schools and churches. What interesting places to detect!

If anyone has experience hunting in Kaufman County, I'd enjoy hearing about it.

Very interesting! I'd look into alot of those areas with Google Earth, and see if you can find them!

Some of those places are described and located in THE TEXAS HANDBOOK ONLINE. Might be interesting to try to discover the location of the Jeuberville race track.

JEUBERVILLE - Referred to in the Commissioners Court Minutes as early as 1854. It was located about one and three fourths miles southeast of present Scurry. It had a store and schoolhouse, but the main attraction was the horse races. The town was dying out by 1877 and apparently never had a post office.

Several old sites are listed here: http://www.kaufmancounty.net/kchcr.htm
