Kentucky Lake Sandy Beach

My favorite resort on Kentucky Lake has a sandy beach on the lake that has had very few metal detectors, if any, in forty years. I got permission to hunt, made reservations to spend a couple days in the Lodge, and hit the beach. Sorry. Bad news! The sand is very thin on the beach, and out in the water there is no sand only gravel. The gravel is backbreaking work to dig up. I spent several hours over two days and just gave up. I was getting lots of signals, but most of the time could not find the target. I got lots of rusty nails, beer bottle caps, miscellaneous trash, and of course a couple dollars in clad coins....mostly up on the beach. But, I didn't find a single piece of jewelry--not even cheap costume jewelry. Bummer.

All I can say is, there will be another day, another beach, and it can only it better

With all the junk you were finding you could tell you weren't using to much discrimination to miss the good stuff. How about any pull tabs? Some beaches don't get the water use where rings come off easily as some leave the good stuff in their rooms. Still something has to be in the water somewhere. Gravel is good for holding objects from traveling deeper. It happens some places.
