Nova you are correct the school was started in 1845 and chartered in 1847... Many of its cadets fought in the Civil War on both sides.
It's a shame that the grounds are off limits,maybe someday that will change..
I have begun reaching out for info on KMI mainly trying to locate rosters and cadets names...with any luck the rosters have survived somewhere and I can track them down and tie a name to the property where I recovered the button.. that would really be a treasure
With a find like this diggin it up is just the first step in the recovery of history for me...
