Key Date 1901s Barber dime found

I went back across the street to the Christmas tree farm MDing. At the start of my second row I found a 1901s Barber dime. It needs some cleaning but I am going to see if it is worth having it professionaly cleaned, graded and slabbed. In bad shape the book has it at $80.00 bucks. I also found an 1888 Indian head penny.

wtg very nice find

Way to go, AW! :o Fantastic find!!

:)

If it's worth at least $80, I would say it is worth getting slabbed, but only if you plan on selling it, otherwise, just get a nice holder for it. The only logical reason to get a coin slabbed is to get people to pay the premium that comes along with a verified grade from a reputable company. People, especially those who can't grade will pay the entra dough on anything that is slabbed and graded.

I think it's worth having it pro. cleaned. It looks to be in extra fine condition.

Great Find.

I did a little searching but can't find anyplace for cleaning. Anyone know where to get it done. I have to do something, it is really dark.

Nice looking coin, even if it is a little dirty. WTG

THAT'S FIRIGGIN' SWEET!! Congrat's! What a rush!

I dug a 1901-S Barber Half last year at a local public park. SO FUN!!

Looks like Santa is still working a little over time. Congrats on a nice coin. Word to the wise, Do Not Clean It! It takes away from the value of the coin. Use warm water and soap only.

Hey, that's a nice find!

Your coin has great detail, but unfortunately your silver coin has a moderate amount of oxidation on it. Oxidation usually means that there has been some degrading of the surface of your coin. Cleaning methods such as electrolysis will remove the oxidation, but you will be left with a shiny coin, where surface pitting will be even more pronounced. Your coin will probably not grade any higher by cleaning it, in fact, it would probably grade lower after cleaning. If your coin was just a little dirty with no oxidation, then a warm water cleaning to remove the dirt would have benefited your find and the grading of it.

I would have to agree with Ridardo.
It definitely looks to be worth having clean...
