Last week I was out twice at a 3/4-acre site (with permission) where a early
1900's home had been razed several years earlier. Before I arrived, I checked
out early aerials of the site to see it's chronological progression of landscaping
and original house location.
I was told this site had been detected several times before so I avoided the front
yard altogether and hunted a back, side-yard area of about a 30' x 50'. I would
estimate that every other target I dug was either a Wheat Penny or some type
of non-ferrous artifact.
This 30' x 50' area took me upwards of 4-hours to hunt but it was worth every minute
of time spent. The majority of targets I recovered were either Wheat Penny's, artifacts,
an Indian Head, or some type of silver. I would estimate that the best targets I recovered
were 4" or 5" deep so whenever I would get a target in that range, it was something
I just had to dig.
My most rewarding finds at this site included a key-date 1921 Mercury Dime,
a Charles Lindbergh button that commemorated his 1927 Trans-Atlantic flight,
a 1934 World's Fair "elongated" penny from the Burlington Zephyer exhibit,
a Wisconsin medallion (note the Milwaukee Braves), a Chinese cash coin,
3 pieces of sterling jewelry, and a Davis & Ennis Hotel Whites aluminum token.
And the good news is, I still have at least 70% of this property left to hunt
Thanks for looking!
