Started hunting a new site today. Property history dates back to colonial period and rumor has it there was a church on the property at one time. I found this keyhole plate at an old building site evident with old brick and lots of iron. I had to switch to "coin" mode to find a few targets in the trash field. Also found three old buckles and a copper disc that may turn out to be a colonial copper coin or button.

The keyhole plate measures 2-1/8" x 1-1/2" and the round part of the keyhole is 3/4" across. What is this part from? Thanks for the help.

Maybe from an old chest :dontknow: Interesting keyhole relic. The key would be cool to find :icon_thumright:

That's one honking big key hole.

If I had to guess, I would say that this is the key hole cover for a door and it could be for the church door. It would be an old, big key. It would match the story about why beer bottle openers are called "Church Keys."

First pic looks like the church boundary wall to me!
