Went back to a site that produced a 1722 French coin a couple weeks back. Wasn't long before i got another good coin signal and pulled this well worn King George copper. Short time later found a couple of colonial buttons and then a stone that looks like it could be some kind of a tool. Found it while i was digging a square nail. Is it a tool of some kind? Thanks for reading, MM2

Thanks, how do you determine if it's a counterfeit? I think this is only my 2nd one dug. Thanks for the link, deepdiger.

MM2,
Congrats on the copper. Even if it turns out to be a counterfeit it is still cool...I might even perfer a counterfeit. Nice buttons too.

The die used, then the weight, and in many cases the metal. I think your coin is probably counterfeit (after comparing) but certainly not the jump out at you type counterfeit which are the ones that are often worth more. There's so many contemporary counterfeits that are close to the regal issues collectors look at the low to mid. grade ones as being pretty much the same. So in the end it's just a worn George II halfpenny, but it's your worn George II halfpenny.

I am sticking to my resources here and will say that it is a cast counterfeit. :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:
