Just wondering if any else has read any of the several books about the cave that was supposedly found in southern Illinois? It was supposedly full of ancient artifacts and supposedly the remains of King Juba from ancient Egypt. Some think it is a complete fraud, others not.
The question in my mind is how a simple working man could fabricate thousands of intricately carved items and then written on several stone tablets with at least four ancient dead languages that few people on earth understand? First it would have taken a lot of skill and lifetime to have created all the stone objects and a heck of an education that can't be gotten from a few books...
Has anything new about the story been turned up? If it is a true story, it would possibly be the greatest discovery of all time and would change the outlook on history. I have NO opinion one way or the other. I've read both pro and con books on the subject.

You and I are likeminded on this . It seems easier to dismiss anomalies as fraud than to admit that
contemporary history is flawed .

guys - I'm interested in hearing more about this story- I don't really watch tv- and haven't heard anything about this one--- would you guys give up some links to any site that might be pro -con on this story? I'll google this if I can get some time today-

something sad to remember about history- 'books are written by the winners of wars- the losers stories are forgotten by time.' we will likely never know anything about the losers of history- they don't tell many stories before they are killed, and no tales after they are dead... :'(

I just Goggled "King Juba", "Burrows Cave" and "The Treasure of King Juba". There are several shortened versions of the book. If I were younger and in good shape, I'd be going after this one... Good Luck.

couple of months old thread, but if I wasted 4 hrs reading I may as well comment

sounds like a failed con to me, failed in the sense that Barrow (sp?) did not make a lot of money
but the fact that the swindle failed does not make the 'artifacts' genuine
and the dynamiting the entrance and GPR now indicates the cave is filled with water . . . .
gimmie a break, if Barrow got tired of the hassle - just walk away
all the tripe about the 'landowners permission' and then Barrow dynamites it ?

Bill:
As stated before, I've read several books on the subject, both pro and con and still have reached no firm conclusion in my mind. The thing that puzzles me is HOW one man, (relatively uneducated and unskilled), could have created so many diverse carved artifacts AND have taught himself so much of ancient languages AND cultures? It would have taken a long. long time to have compleated the research alone. for such a project. With my skills and background, I tried to replicate a couple of the simple carvings, in soft slate, they turned out horrible...
Oh, for one of the other comments, I've NEVER seen a single second about this subject on TV, only in books... Thank You
