I got a nice permission along Kings Highway here in Middletown, NJ. This road was one of the many Indian trails that ran through the area. When the British camped here after the Rev War Battle of Monmouth in 1778 it was named for the Monarchy, the Kings Highway. During the Civil War troops under a Colonel Truex drilled here before fighting.
There are also ties to Captain Kidd and Blackbeard because of the proximity to Sandy Hook and the coast.
Anyway, I knocked on a door and the guy said feel free. Very first ping was a 1952 quarter soon followed by another. Gave them to the owner. Found a lot of modern coins, that is 1900's. Found an 1899 Barber dime and then I got a solid 18 on the 800 at 6 inches and dug what appears to be a William III half penny, thank you TNetter DCMatt. That would be late 1690's to 1701 or so. I was really happy even though it was in sad shape 20181117_122544.jpg20181114_162845.jpg20181116_094718.jpg20181114_141019.jpg.
The guy's daughter was there and he said she lives in a 250 year old house. She said come over anytime. Nice to have permission lined up. I'm not much for door knocking. Thanks for looking and HH.20181116_094752.jpg
Reverse of the half has nothing left. How about the creepy St. Christopher/Bigfoot medallion.1697_king_william_iii_british_us_colonial_halfpenny_copper___dug_green_patina_1_lgw.jpgScreenshot of a William III.

Thanks Tommy. I am hoping to go back this week coming up.

That St. Christopher metal is awesome!! It is a tad creepy, but I like!! Good job. I wonder if that’s the same king’s highway that runs through Haddon Heights NJ, where I spent my first 6 years of life

Interesting research on that highway. Sounds like it’s going to be a place for some good finds in the future. Congrats on the permissions. Can’t wait to see what else you pull out of there. Those are some real finds. Congrats

Wow great finds! :icon_thumleft: Yes that St Christopher medallion is really creepy! lol. Congrats on the old copper!

Sweet finds! The prospect of having that other real old home lined up must feel pretty good- GL!

Excellent hunt and permission! :occasion14:

Great hunt and great backround history. Congrats on the great finds, and vool of you to give some silver to the owner, that's what probably helped you get the other permission.

Awesome finds. Congrats

That's a phenomenally early copper for North America. Congratulations! My oldest copper is 30 years younger than yours.
