It's about 8" long overall and probably dates to the 30's-40's. Opens and closes by use of a sliding ring. The "prongs have flat edges like a screwdriver and are not pointed like the middle probe. Not in my possession but I will try and answer any questions you have. What is it?

It has two flattened prongs that clamp together and an additional pointed middle probe?

Like this? :icon_scratch:

These are fireplace tongs. About 30 inches long... We REALLY need a pic to do a proper ID.

Btw- This was posted on another form and there were many replies as it being some sort of ice pick or cube lifter or something. Just on the off chance that it was I've already looked at just about every ice related item ever made I believe, I feel confident saying it isn't ice related in any way. It obviously has a specific purpose.

I agree !I think you would need to Try over & over to pick up an Ice Cube with it.
it would not be a one off every time.

regular Tongs are so much More Qualified for Ice

I suppose it could be used to Grab a Cork But even that seems Far Fetched.

Does the Center Spike Go into the Handle when Pushed ?

Or is it Stationary ?

The spike is stationary and does not move. Only moving part is the ring that slides down to keep it clamped, whatever "it" is.

Second attempt images come in better.

As a WAG: a corn cob holder or perhaps a roast/turkey lifter? I agree kitchen of 30's to 40's.

So then it is Expected to Puncture, Not Retract and Hold Still at the same time.

the item would then, most likely be heavy & fall off the Spike without the Grabbers

Add to that, Because of the Ring, It most likely Must stay on till the Person does Something To it.

also looks too wide for taking something out of all types of Jars
