Knap-in Coming Soon!

The Devils Hole knap-in at Pleasant Ridge Park in Fairview Hgts IL is coming next weekend. Earlybirds arrive Thu June 1st. Fri and Sat are biggest days. Activities end by about 11 am Sunday when people start packing up. $5 fee for knappers, no fee for visitors. This is the oldest knap-in in the Midwest and has been going on every year since 1980.
I haven’t knapped since 2007 but am attending to unload a 22 yr accumulation of flint, agate, tools and other knapping supplies!

You’re talking about the Collinsville show. There are normally two rooms. One room of mainly authentic artifacts, the other room has “everything else”.🤣 It’s a really good show and I have gone many times.

Just got done replacing my computer and I've been without one for a week or so and the up coming storm is to hit Friday and it's supposed to be a bad one , so I will be at the Saturday show until I drop !! I'm wanting to get some knapping material and if I don't get some I'll go to the Gem and Mineral show at the Machinist Hall on the Rock Road and if they don't have what I need I'll be headed out Hiway 70 to Troy Mo. or out to Sedalia Mo. If you see some dumb old guy asking a lot of dumb questions , It'll be me ! Fuzzy Face and all !

I doubt you’ll find any knapping stone there. It’s possible I guess but I’ve never seen any there. Gem and mineral shows might have some knappable material but your best bet would be to go to a knapin or find some yourself.

Thanks for your reply Gary ! I think I'll go anyway , you never know ,plus it will be fun to see all the peoples workings ! The next week I'll go to the Machinist Hall to see what they have that will work OR Go out to the previously posted spots to see what I can find out in Nature's beauty! I'll might have to contact the group in Sedalia Mo. I know they have land that has Mozarkite ! They may even have some material they'd sell rather than dig it myself!

WOW , that was a neat show ! No Mozarkite but it was very impressive to see both rooms filled with people and points and artifacts !I'm glad I went even knowing that I probly wouldn't find any stones to Knapp but it was fun ! I'm going to the Machinist's Hall in St. Louis on the Rock Road next and probly contact someone in that Sedalia ,Mo. group to dig some Mozarkite in the coming months . I would have never known there is so many people involved with Knapping and so interested in this to boot ! I had a great time at the show !

The "Gem & Mineral show opens today at 4 PM at the Machinist Hall on St. Charles Rock Road in North St .Louis County. I don't want to fight that traffic so I'm going to go Saturday morning and if I don't find some Kaolin and some Mozarkite I'll be calling the group down in south Central Mo. and possibly a trip next week if the weather behaves !

No Mozarkite / Kaolin / or any Burlington flints there ! lots of polished rocks /slabs of polished rocks / jewelry and many dodads ! This satisfied my curiosity ! Ill be headed to Sedalia as soon as I can contact one of the club officers there to find out who/ what / where /when and ...well you get the point! I'm going for the Mother load of Mozarkite and what ever else I can get ! I'm bringing my truck to make a haul of what ever I can afford !
