Can't help you with the "I" question, but my compliments on a nice find!

CannonballGuy commented on previous inquiry about these here: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/248015-infantry-button.html
To summarize, it is believed they are post-war. However I don't know if there is any more current thinking abut these.
Are you able to make out the backmark?

Firstly congrats to the OP on a very rare button. Shame the backmarks not there to inform us with more details.

I like CBG explanation on how post war buttons may have found there way into old CW camps/sites. It interests me because so many assume provenance is about where something is found, & its not, its more than that its firstly about a factual ID, then it builds a picture. This one though still seems pretty grey without an exact ID, & sounds like it could just cross that line into CW.
All good stuff.

Great info. Much appreciated

Back is broken no backmark unfortunately

Sounds like another convo on here regarding provenance....; )

Sort of, although that's not what jumps to mind. When you have been on here awhile, you see a trend. (lots on here do it, including myself) A trend of people who think that everything on a CW Site is CW. (NB. This is not directed at the OP, just my usual general but relevant discussion point) What I'm trying to instill is 'ID first' assumptions & picture building later.
You see Time-team fall into the same trap. In fact I fell into it myself with a possible Saxon Burial Site (recently), it might just be a 3rd settlement, to be decided....
