Knife River Flint blade found in Minnesota. Always wonder when I look at a piece like this whether it would have been hand held or mounted in a bone. Any way of telling based on flaking, etc.? Interested in hearing opinions.

Thanks-T.

Nice looking blade, I don't know if it was hand held or hafted with a handle. I wonder if that chip in the egde was put there on purpose to use it it as a spoke shave ?

Thanks flintdigger...Good question about the spokeshave. I've wondered that too, but also wondered if it was hafted to a handle if it was used in that process.

It does look a bit more narrow from that notch or chip back, can you tell if it is any thinner in that area ?

That has an interesting flute at the base. Not saying its paleo. there was a reason someone wanted a big flake taken off there.
