Looks like it could be jasper. Probably a preform or crude tool. Cool find.

I belive that to be a Clearfork gouge,and a sweet one at that!

Wow Lake Travis and possum Kingdom. I have not been on that water in a long time. I used to live in Bryan,Tx/College Station.
 

Long ago I have found things like that in the Texas Hill Country. Now I know what it is. Thanks everybody.

don't mean to get off topic here but we lived in round rock TX by austin (early 70's) and some of us worked at lake travis framing condos
that is when my son was born, we named him travis (after the lake)
never found any artifacts however
 

I grew up on Cedar Creek Lake. I lived there from about 5 years old until I went to college. My parents still live there in Kemp, Texas.
 

Would jasper have that outer rind?

Most stones have rind or cortex. It is like our skin till removed to show the inside. Some and a lot in Tx is designed this way. Most are hand tools when you see the cortex still attached. It keeps it from slipping out of your hand kinda like a grip.
