✅ SOLVED LARGE CALIBER BULLET - METAL JACKET SPLIT

Hi all,

This is my 3rd find of such a bullet but I'm not sure what caused the metal jacket to separate like this. Maybe 50 caliber (?) Found in a yard that used to be a farm area in the 1920s. Any information at all is appreciated, I just don't know too much about these larger bullets. It's 3/8 inch at the base and 2.5 inches long.

tracer bullets will split like that due to repeated water freezing in the trace pocket.

Look like a 50 cal but the diameter would be larger that 3/8".

Some had a steel core, maybe it rusted making it crack the copper jacket.

Sure looks like a 50 Cal BMG, but it was 1/2 inch to start, If you meant 5/8 that would be about right.

Could be, it was hard to measure because of the split jacket so I estimated.
