Hey guys
Went out to this 1780's house i got permission to do today. Was detecting for about a hr when i got a dime/quarter hit. Dug down and i pulled out a large copper. The only problem is i have no idea what it is. I have included some pics in hopes someone can id it. All i can make out is there looks to the wreath thats around the sides of the American Large Cent. The oly problem is the leaves dont look like they are in the right area to be a lareg cent. Also i have dug over 15 LC and i have always been able to see atleast something that makes it id able. This thing has nothing. The other side is completely destroyed with no objects visible. I was aboe to see one letter or number directly arcoss and to the left of the leaves. Looks to be either a T, L, or 7 im not sure . Sorry fo the pic quality. The 2 pics before the last are of the letter or number accross from the leaves. Any info or ideas is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

P.s. the last pic show the size of the copper layed ontop of a Half Dollar. Also just a note the coin looks very crueduly made judging by its misshape and the fact that its thickness is not the same all around the coin.
Keith

It does look kind of crudely made. Lots of colonials were counterfeited. Take a pencil rubbing of the coin. Use the side of the pencil lead and rub very lightly so as only to get the most high relief points on the coin. There may be more detail than you think.......unless its a dandy button like Crusader says.....but even if it is, you should still see something with a pencil rubbing.
