largie found coronet or classic?

That's a coronet for certain. It will be just about impossible to see a date on that one, it appears. Any other largies you find in that area, you perhaps should not clean them with water. Still a good find though.

i didn't use water.just a peroxide bath with a softbristle t-brush.i've been fortunate with my other largie finds as far as dates they are all visible right from the plug.what do u recommend using? :headbang:

The toothbrush is probably what did it. Peroxide does it's work without additional effort or cleaning. You might wish to try using cotton swabs dipped in peroxide or water and gently rolling the dirt off the coin. If the patina looks like it'll hold, I then consider using peroxide. (Don in SJ's method)

If I decide that the coin will look good without the patina, I remove it with a toothbrush and then use the oil from my hands to lightly go over the design (which will darken it and make it stand out from the rest of the coin). (My method)

If there is interest, I am happy to post examples of each technique (cotton swab only, peroxide, and patina removal + applied finger oil).

I tried some programs on my apple to no avail. Nice dig though. I would enjoy seeing diffrent ways to clean coins like yours. Again nice find. Here is my screwed up attempt on the pic.
