Hey folks!
Figured it was time to do another write up about what I’ve been up to. My hunts aren’t as regular these days. House projects and a puppy will do that to you!
This is my 9-week old Fox Red Lab, Atlas.

He’s been a joy but a lot of work.
Anyways, I know what you all came here for; coins and shiny stuff! Here are some recaps.
9/22/20
Got out to a well-hunted park and started getting a few wheat pennies in a concentrated area with scratchy signals. I hunkered down there for about 2.5 hours and no joke got 51 wheat pennies out of a 6’x6’ area. I have to imagine people passed it up before because there were so many mid-tones that it sounded kind of junky.
I also got some old nickels including a 44-S war nickel, 2 dateless buffs and a couple other early 40s Jeffersons. My previous high of wheats in a day was 26 so this pretty well blew that out of the water.
Tons of the wheats were from 1944. Made me wonder if it was a lost roll? Or maybe the site of an old concession stand or penny hunt? Because they were so concentrated I got a few steel cents as well which is always fun.

9/25/20
Got back to the same site and picked up 5 more wheats in the 6’x6’ pocket. I wandered around after that and did manage to get over a silver, a 42-S Merc. Total wheat pennies that day was 19 and I also got a WA tax token. The Warranted Superior doodad is from an old handsaw.

The 28th was one of my better hunts on the year. I started digging some wheats out of gravel but each one was taking me probably 5 minutes to recover. Eventually I wandered away and got my first silver of the day, a Merc!

Shortly thereafter I was getting a 24 signal a few notches deep, figured it would be a wheatie. First thing I pulled out of the hole was a war nickel which is awesome! I haven’t gotten a lot of war nickels with the Nox but I know that was probably too high of a tone.
Turns out there were two more Mercs in there as well. Score!

A while later I was working that same general area and got a 26 signal a few notches deep. Figured it was a penny but was super surprised and pumped to see an SLQ!!

On my way back to the car in the dark I got one more silver, another Merc.
Here are the totals.

So altogether a dateless, no-mint, type 1 SLQ (most likely a 1917), 4 Mercs (25, 27-D, 42-D, 42-S), a war nickel (43-S), 20 wheats (including a 1926-S!), 1.25 Tax Tokens and a KGVI Canadian penny.
10/4/20
First outing of October! Tried a new park with some decent history. Unfortunately it was filled but I did manage to get a dainty 925 ring.

After that strikeout I went back to the honey hole from the previous few hunts but couldn’t get a silver coin for the life of me.

I ended the day with the silver ring, 11 wheats, a WA tax token, a 1919 Seattle Transit token, part of an old buckle and part of an old cufflink.

I got dinner with a friend who happens to be renting a 1920s house with a small yard in the city. Told him I had my detector and asked if I could give it a swing and he obliged! Super glad I asked.
After doing 90% of the yard I had two wheat pennies. I was feeling bummed but that’s the way these things go sometimes.
I got a shallow 28-30 (Nox 800) on one of my last few passes and gave the clod a flip. No way! A 43-S Washington. I was so pumped to get silver. I saw it had a stain so I stuck the pinpointer back in the hole and got another silver quarter! I was so shocked to see a BARBER. What the heck? It’s a 1908-O (only my 3rd O mint ever). Also got a couple wheats out of the hole, the latest of which had a date of 1944.
Can’t believe these quarters, from 35 years apart, were found together. I’ve never heard of a Washington and Barber in the same spill before, has anyone else? I presume it happens because the closest dates would only have a 16-17 year gap, I was just super surprised

That’s all for now. I’m hoping to get out this upcoming weekend, weather permitting. Good luck hunting and living all!
