Last couple of hunts - 1909 VDB & silver medal/charm
Hi everyone! Well, I hit the woods with Watercolor again, as well as a wooded overgrown city park. In the woods, I got a deep coin signal in an area that really didn't have a lot of trash signals. It was off the beaten path, a low area, and it turned out to be muddy.
I dug down eight inches before getting this muddy penny up. Between the mud and having left my glasses at home,
all I could tell was that it wasn't an Indian, so I was disappointed. I stuck it in my bag and hunted on.
A couple hours later we were working our way back to our cars & I decided to try a trashy area just inside the woods near the parking area and clearing. I got a good signal, but the target was pasted up in the mud under and between two roots. I got it out and was disappointed that it appeared to be some kind of muddy tag, and not the coveted and ever elusive George (Washington quarter) that I seek.
After I got home, I was pleased to see that the wheat was a 1909. Of course there was no "S", but a little cleaning off and there was the tiny "VDB"!!
Maybe not a huge thrill for some, but it sure made that hunt worthwhile for me! To top it off, the little medal turned out to be a St. Anthony medal. It cleaned up really well, and I believe it's silver. I can't find a .925 anywhere on it, but when I drop it on the counter, it sings like a Mercury dime - so I'm calling it silver. My daughter told me that St. Anthony is the patron saint of things lost. Seems a little ironic to me...
I also found a plated but not marked sugar spoon, an old lipstick, a whistle, an aluminum token, a junk earring, a '41 wheat, and some clad. I don't know what is up with the red pennies. Looks like someones kids were busy with red paint. Watercolor did OK, too. I'm sure he'll be posting soon. HH to all, and thanks for checking out my stuff!
