A few cool things from the mountain side here in VA.
Hunted the edge of a field that was grown out of sight and mostly just wooded areas the rest of the time.

after inspection the Button's design is a bit different here and there on the front...

Thanks for looking !!!

Hey Thanks for all the info you dug up on the rope tensioner....I just dug it and it looked cool whether CW related or not...I am glad it goes back quite a ways though, and to me a fun dig. Thanks!!

I agree, they are a cool thing to dig. Even though not Civil War related, still they come from a decently old time period. They make a nice display piece too and usually come out of the ground with a nice, green patina.

I agree with Worm Slicer, I have dug those tent rope tensioners on in 1940s Boy Scout camps. The button on the other hand I would date to approximately 1810-20.

Thanks for some help on the date of the button. I figured old, but that is awesome to come from that period. You must know button dates good...what gave you the date range for this particular button. Just interested in trying to learn a bit.

Thanks,
RV

Hard work pays off.
Nice button

Actually the silver plated design on the front looks even older than the date I estimated, but I have dug enough buttons with that wreath design and I know the age of the sites they came from. I also have several button books - Tice's, Albert's, etc.

After looking closer at the design on the front and the back markings, I feel the date range is more like 1800 - 1810.

Thanks Steve in Pa.

Does anyone actually have a civil war tent tensioner? Would love to see a comparison. Simple things didn't change much over the years. Great button!

Thanks Silvermonkey....it surely does shine nicely...I kept swinging slowly around that area..hoping the whole garment had been lost....but no such luck.
